Homemade Calzones! Recipe
Spinach Calzones
- 1 pound of meat: Chicken, sausage, or vegetarian option-mushrooms
- 1 small onion
- 2Tbspns of olive oil
- Italian seasoning-or a seasoning of choice
- 10 ounces frozen spinach-thawed and drained.
- 8 ounces of ricotta cheese
- 8 ounces/1cup of mozzarella cheese-shredded
- 1tsp minced garlic
- 1Tbspn Parsely
- 4tsp Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg white-no yolk!
- Pizza dough- homemade or store bought (just make sure its actual dough not a crust)
- For topping - optional egg white, butter, garlic powder, parmesan cheese
- Serve with a yummy red sauce of choice - we did a garlic and onion one =)
- Cut meat/mushrooms and onion and cook/saute. Season while cooking and use the oil while sauteing. Set aside.
- Mix spinach, ricotta, mozz., garlic, parsely, parmesan, and 1 egg white until blended. Add meat or mushrooms, stir in.
- Take pizza dough and divide into 6 or more portions (I made six and 1 calzone was filling when served with a salad at dinner)
- Roll out on floured surface -or cornmeal, or both and fill it with filling. (I rolled out on floured surface then when full with stuffing i layed the bottom in cornmeal.
- To seal edges i folded over the edge and pressed a fork on it. You can also brush beaten egg white to really seal it up. For the top, you can brush it with egg white or butter and then sprinkle with garlic powder and/or parmesan cheese.
- Bake at 350* for 15-20 minutes. Serve with sauce for dipping! Enjoy!
